AURORA | Not every football game is won by dominance in all three phases of the game, but Grandview found that formula Sept. 29 to beat its neighborhood rival in the A-Town Game of the Week.

Coach John Schultz’s Wolves scored a special teams touchdown on Luke Laflam’s blocked punt recovery in the end zone, notched its first shutout of the season as a defense and got two rushing touchdowns from senior quarterback Gunnar Lamphere in a 24-0 victory over Cherokee Trail at Legacy Stadium.

Grandview topped Cherokee Trail for the third straight meeting between the teams and improved to 4-1, while the Cougars dropped to 2-3.

The Wolves defense limited Cherokee Trail to just 83 net yards of total offense and needed that type of performance on a night when senior star running back Hayden Blubaugh ran for just 61 yards, marking the only time he hasn’t reached 100 in 17 games with Grandview.

Lamphere scored touchdowns of 11 and 1 yard, Laflam fell on a punt blocked by Julius Carter Jr. in the end zone and Ben Montgomery knocked through a 34-yard field goal to constitute the Wolves’ scoring.

KJ Sapp had 52 yards receiving and Brenden Holt rushed for 47 yards for the Cougars, who made only a few trips into Grandview territory.

The next A-Town Game of the Week sees Overland (0-5) playing host to Arapahoe (2-3) at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at Stutler Bowl in the Mount Massive League opener for both teams.
