WESTMINSTER | The Regis Jesuit girls soccer team continued to defy the odds with a second straight upset victory in the Class 5A state playoffs.
The 29th-seeded Raiders — fresh off an overtime victory against No. 4 Fruita Monument — took down their second higher-seeded foe with a 1-0 regulation win against No. 13 Legacy Friday at the North Stadium.

Coach Will Cropper’s injury-plagued Regis Jesuit team got a goal off a corner kick serve from sophomore forward Morgan Anderson in the second half and made it stand up to advance to the 5A quarterfinals for a second straight season.
With senior goalkeeper Katelyn Martin sidelined with a concussion, freshman Hannah Cosgrove started in the net and helped the Raiders post their fourth shutout of the season and first since April 10.
Regis Jesuit (6-10) next faces fellow Continental League member, No. 5 Mountain Vista (13-3-1), in a quarterfinal contest set for 4:15 p.m. May 16 at Shea Stadium. The teams met in league play April 12 and the Golden Eagles prevailed 2-1.
The Raiders join top-seeded Grandview (a 6-0 winner over No. 17 Boulder) and No. 6 Cherokee Trail (a 2-1 winner over No. 11 Cherry Creek) among Aurora programs left in the final eight.
