LAKEWOOD | The Grandview girls flag football team knocked off two-time state champion Mountain Vista during the regular season, but it won’t assume the throne in Class 5A.

The fifth-seeded Wolves opened postseason play Saturday at Trailblazer Stadium with a second round victory over No. 12 Arapahoe, but their push towards a title came to an end a few hours later when they fell to fourth-seeded Arvada West.

Coach Mark Fisher’s Grandview team improved its win total by two from last season as it finished 15-2, with the only two defeats coming to half of the teams remaining in the 5A semifinals in second-seeded Legend and Arvada West.

With its seeding, Grandview got a first round bye in the postseason, which extended the time since its regular season final Oct. 3 to two weeks. That produced some definite rust that came in the opening matchup with Arapahoe, which the Wolves had defeated 27-12 in Centennial League play Sept. 23.

Senior Brooke Sullivan rushed for three touchdowns and threw scoring passes to juniors Reisa Cox and K’Dence Thomas, while junior Jayden Schwabauer also rushed for a touchdown for Grandview in the win over Arapahoe.
