THORNTON | Both Aurora area qualifiers for the 1-meter diving competition at the Class 5A boys swimming state meet garnered points for their teams Thursday morning.

Grandview sophomore Hunter Bull and Overland senior Chad Hamilton finished 14th and 19th, respectively, among the field of 27 divers onhand at the Veterans’ Memorial Aquatic Center.

For Hamilton, it was the third straight season he qualified for the finals (top 20) and the third time he earned points for the Overland program at the state meet. His score of 389.35 this season was just a shade off the 392.05 he earned in 2024 when he finished a career-best 18th. As a sophomore in 2023, Hamilton placed 30th with a score of 343.85.

Hamilton also swims for the Trailblazers and will be in action in relays during the 5A prelims that begin at 5 p.m. at the same venue.

For Bull, it is first state place and he secured it with a total of 431.75 points.

Coming into state off a runner-up performance at the Centennial “A” League Championship meet behind Cherry Creek’s Luke Ogren — who won his third straight state championship — Bull accrued his second-highest 11-dive score of the season.
