COLORADO SPRINGS | The Vista PEAK Prep boys soccer team scored first in its inaugural Class 5A state playoff game Wednesday evening, but Rampart scored the next three on its way to a 3-1 victory.

The 30th-seeded Bison broke a scoreless tie at District 20 Stadium with a goal by sophomore Angel Flores in the 29th minute and went into halftime tied after the third-seeded and undefeated Rams responded with a goal with less than four minutes left before the break.

Rampart (12-0-4) got the go-ahead goal just over five minutes into the second half on a breakaway and another off a corner kick set piece four minutes later for some breathing room as the Rams advanced to the second round. Rampart will play host to another Aurora team, 14th-seeded Cherokee Trail, which defeated No. 19 Valor Christian 1-0 in overtime.

Coach Federico Gomez’s Vista PEAK Prep team finished the season 7-7-2.

Full results from the opening round of the 5A boys soccer state playoffs — which saw Aurora Central, Cherokee Trail and Regis Jesuit prevail among Aurora teams in action — can be found here.
