COLORADO SPRINGS | Grandview’s defense helped the Wolves overwhelm high-scoring Doherty in a 42-2 Mount Massive League road win Oct. 20 at Garry Berry Stadium.
The Spartans came into the game averaging nearly 40 points per game, but managed just two on a safety as Grandview’s defense forced four turnovers — including a highlight-reel one-handed interception from senior Jordan Knapke — and scored twice itself on fumble return TDs from junior Trevor Greenlee and senior Luke La Flam.
Junior Jordan Billingsley rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns — including a 51-yard scoring run — to lead the offensive production for coach John Schultz’s Wolves (6-2), who took sole possession of the Mount Massive League lead at 3-0 in conference.

Grandview’s defense was again the star, as it has allowed just 89 points in eight games, third-best in all of Class 5A behind co-leaders Chaparral and Eaglecrest (82 points apiece). Doherty managed just 137 yards of total offense.
A snap that went over the head of the Doherty quarterback was snatched by Greenlee for a 3-yard touchdown return, while La Flam had a long route as he took his scoop and score back 57 yards.
Knapke, who also plays on the school’s basketball team, skied and snatched an interception in the red zone in the first quarter as well to turn away the Spartans.
Senior quarterback Kyle Smith also rushed for a touchdown for the Wolves, who won handily despite generating just over 200 yards of total offense.
Billingsley recorded his fifth straight 100-yard rushing game to pass 1,000 yards for the season and also got into double figures in touchdowns with his three scores.
Grandview faces Arapahoe at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at Legacy Stadium.
