AURORA | The third time Grandview and Cherokee Trail played during the 2017-18 season finished identically to the first two.

The 27th-seeded Cougars had a chance to put a pair of Centennial League losses to the Wolves behind them in a 5A second round state playoff contest Feb. 24 at Grandview.

Coach Michael Rogers’ No. 6 Wolves (20-4) weren’t looking for any type of change, however, and came away with a 72-41 victory that was a virtual carbon copy of the previous two games.

Junior Dayne Prim exploded for 25 points — two shy of his season-high — sophomore Lian Ramiro added 11 and sophomore Caleb McGill had 10 for Grandview, which moved into a Sweet 16 game against No. 11 Rampart Feb. 28. The Wolves play host to the Rams at 7 p.m. with the winner headed to the Denver Coliseum.

Coach Morgan Gregory saw his Cougars get a team-high 13 points from senior Deon Barfield, eight more from sophomore Kyrie Thomas and seven apiece from seniors Octavian Hymer and Tyson Rodgers.

Cherokee Trail — which had its season ended in the second round for the fourth time in the past five seasons — finished the season 11-14.
