Sentinel Colorado’s preps Blast from the Past image for Aug. 1, 2023, is a group shot of the Smoky Hill field hockey team after its Play for the Cure game on Oct. 1, 2014, at Stutler Bowl. The Buffaloes played Cherry Creek wearing pink t-shirts that were dedicated to the memory of Kim Kamlet, who died six months earlier, shortly after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Kamlet was the aunt of head coach Natalie Foerster and mother of Jacqueline Kamlet, a freshman on the Smoky Hill team that season (see story, here). During the game — an inspired 2-0 loss to Cherry Creek — the team collected $450 by passing around pink buckets in the stands to donate to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
