AURORA | Village East Elementary School will close its doors early for the holiday break Friday due to widespread stomach-illness, influenza and flu-like symptoms affecting staff and students, said Cherry Creek School District spokesperson Abbe Smith.
Parents were notified that the school will not open Friday, Dec. 21 in a letter from school Principal John Cramer.
Cramer said in the letter that Cherry Creek schools worked with the Tri-County Health Department to contain the illnesses, but to no avail.
“These illnesses are highly contagious, and even though extra efforts have been made to clean the school, risk of illness and spread of illness still exists,” he said in the letter.
