MONDAY, SEPT. 14: A goal by Frank Cardoza lifted the Hinkley boys soccer team to a 2-1 victory against Overland in a late local matchup at Stutler Bowl. …The Gateway boys soccer team scored in each half on its way to a 2-0 win over Skyline. …The Grandview boys soccer team suffered its first loss of the season as it fell 1-0 at Valor Christian, which extended its own unbeaten start. …The Hinkley girls volleyball team defeated Aurora Central 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 25-15. …The Overland girls flag football team started fast and finished strong in a 41-6 win at Gateway that saw Michaela Halton throw five touchdown passes and intercept two passes defensively. Joy Jamison had 128 yards receiving and caught three scoring passes, while she also threw one, and Olivia Gadberry, Zahriya Hill and Lucy Massingale also scored. …The Regis Jesuit girls flag football team downed ThunderRidge 27-7. …Ace Kelly of the Vista PEAK Prep boys golf team shot a plus-3 75 to tie for fifth place in the City League tournament played at Aurora Hills G.C.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 12: The Grandview softball team finished as Silver Bracket champions of the Dave Sanders Memorial tournament with a 10-7 victory over Fossil Ridge at the Aurora Sports Park. Christi Birx earned the win and helped herself with two RBI, which also came from Ally Birx and Mayia Carter. …The Eaglecrest softball team dropped a 9-0 contest against undefeated Windsor at the Dave Sanders Memorial tournament. Haisley Elliott had half of the six hits for the Raptors, who were third in the Platinum Bracket. …The Cherokee Trail girls volleyball team finished 3-1 at the Eaglecrest Invitational tournament, as it rebounded from an opening loss to Rocky Mountain to beat Fountain-Fort Carson, Brighton and Denver East. Host Eaglecrest dropped three matches, including two three-setters. …The Overland girls flag football team earned a 25-8 victory over Thornton with help from Michaela Halton, who threw two touchdown passes to Joy Jamison and another to Jalena Flores, while Symphony Vaughn rushed for a score. Halton also hauled in three interceptions, while Jamison had a pick and two sacks.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 11: The Cherokee Trail softball team scored twice in the top of the seventh inning and held on for a 4-2 win over Horizon as Sydney Cobb struck out eight in four innings. Cobb, Taylen Shaver and Peyton Contes were credited with RBI. …The Eaglecrest softball team went 3-0 on the opening day of the Dave Sanders Memorial tournament at the Aurora Sports Park with defeats of Brighton (9-7), Mountain Vista (16-3) and D’Evelyn (10-5). Alyssa Vallejos earned the win in two of the contests and Haisley Elliott got the other. Ryleigh Stufft had seven hits among the games, including a home run, triple and two doubles, while Abby Files had a five-RBI day …The Grandview softball team fell to undefeated Windsor 10-0 and to Ponderosa 10-4, but topped Central of Grand Junction 12-2 at the Dave Sanders Memorial tournament at the Aurora Sports Park. Christi Birx struck out 10 in a four-hitter in the victory and finished 5-for-8 at the plate as well between the three contests. …The Aurora Science & Technology boys soccer team doubled up Thornton 2-1. …Jade McDaniel of the Cherokee Trail girls cross country team placed 13th to lead locals at the Arapahoe Warrior Invitational at deKoevend Park, while Regis Jesuit took eighth place as the only area team to get a team score. In the boys race, Smoky Hill’s Bishop Gonzalez led the way in 100th place.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 10: The Rangeview softball team broke through late to defeat visiting George Washington 7-3 as Anabelle Velasco struck out nine and scattered two hits in five innings of work on the mound. Shannon Henry knocked in a pair of runs for the Raiders, who also benefited from nine errors by the Patriots. …Gera Barco opened the scoring, while Martin Carrizoza and Brandon Casillas added on in the second half as the Hinkley boys soccer team downed Gateway 3-0 at the Aurora Sports Park. …The Grandview boys soccer team got second-half goals from Cameron Harkness and Garrett Revercomb that lifted it to a 2-0 road win over Mountain Vista. Jazy Perez Pena and Tristan Pigeaire had four saves apiece in the shutout. …Goals from Luis Hoyos and Justin Rodriquez gave the Overland boys soccer team a 2-0 win over Aurora Central. …The Vista PEAK Prep boys soccer team tallied twice in the second half to prevail over Eaglecrest 3-1 in a local matchup. …Adrian Gonzalez scored twice and Abenezer Kassie also found the back of the net for the Vanguard Classical East boys soccer team in its 3-0 shutout of Front Range Baptist. …The Regis Jesuit girls volleyball team took a 25-13, 25-9, 25-23 road win at Smoky Hill behind nine kills from Daphne Vasillaides, 21 digs from Emme Phillips and 23 assists from Nevaeh Waterman. …The Vista PEAK Prep girls volleyball team swept past Skyview 25-5, 25-9, 25-15. …Gift Elamo notched seven kills, while Jayla Herrera accounted for 18 assists, six kills and three service aces for the Overland girls volleyball team in a 25-11, 25-12, 25-23 win over Thornton. …The Hinkley girls flag football team rolled to a 44-0 win over Kennedy. …The Grandview field hockey team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-0 home shutout of Dakota Ridge. …Singles wins from Krishiv Malik and Taejoo Kim at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, coupled with three doubles victories gave the Cherokee Trail boys tennis team a 5-2 Centennial League win over visiting Smoky Hill. The Buffaloes came away with wins from Evan Nguyen at No. 1 singles plus a victory at No. 1 doubles from Josh Robin and Henry Stanley. …The Grandview boys tennis team did not drop a single set in its 7-0 Centennial League dual win over Eaglecrest.
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 9: The Cherokee Trail softball team trailed Pine Creek by two runs going to the bottom of the fourth inning before a 14-run explosion — capped by an RBI base hit from Delaney Falzon — gave it a 16-4 victory. Taylen Shaver doubled and homered and drove in four runs for the Cougars, who also got two RBI apiece from winning pitcher Sydney Cobb, Falzon, Kayla Kee and Corrine Becker. …Claire Pariset pitched four hitless innings of relief and struck out five for the Regis Jesuit softball team in an 8-5 Continental League road win at Castle View. Caitlin Fairchild doubled, homered and scored three times, plus joined Alex Tavlarides with two RBI for the Raiders. …The Aurora Central and Aurora Science & Technology boys and girls cross country teams finished 10th and 12th, respectively, in the Denver West Cowboy Invitational at Garfield Park. Isabella Salas of Aurora Central led local girls with an 11th-place result, while the 40th place showing of Aurora Science & Technology’s Eli Briones-Ruiz paced boys from area programs. …Brooke Sullivan threw three touchdown passes to Kendall Tracy and also found Delaina Burgeson and Jayden Schwabauer for scores — plus tallied on the ground as well — as the Grandview girls flag football team rolled past Mullen 39-0. …Logan and Reagan Wagner each caught touchdown passes from Iyana Gonzalez Som in the opening half to help the Eaglecrest girls flag football team win 15-6 at Cherokee Trail. Sophia Salas turned a short pass from Eliza Barno into a long touchdown for the Cougars. …A touchdown catch by Keily Farfan Avalos (from Bella Briggs) and two interceptions helped the Aurora Central girls flag football team to a 26-6 victory over Skyview. …The Regis Jesuit boys tennis team ceded a total of just nine games to Castle View in a 7-0 Continental League dual sweep. …The Aurora Central boys golf team took third and Gateway fourth at the Colorado League Minor tournament played at Aurora Hills G.C. with Terrell Johnikin’s eighth place leading the way for the Trojans, while Cooper Nicolino grabbed 10th for the Olys. …The Overland co-op gymnastics team cruised to a sizeable win in a tri-meet with Palmer Ridge and Heritage, as it racked up a team score of 171.750 and had the all-around champion in Piper Sannes. Sannes won the uneven bars, Maddie Dossey (Gateway) took the vault and Stephanie Fernandes (Grandview) ruled the floor exercise as the Trailblazers won handily.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 8: The Cherokee Trail softball team downed Ponderosa 5-0 on the road behind Emma Rice, who allowed just a single hit in four innings and struck out six. Tayah Burton, Delaney Falzon and Taylen Shaver knocked in runs for the Cougars. …The Smoky Hill softball team scored in every inning of its 14-2 victory over Highlands Ranch, as an 11-hit attack give winning pitcher Ava Matheny all the support she needed. Morgan Wilson had three hits and scored three times, while Jade Ross (with a home run), Lexi Larsen and Nikiah Light drove in two runs apiece and Trea Robinson was credited with six stolen bases for the Buffaloes. …Hat tricks for both Martin Carrizoza and Gio Duran, plus a goal and two assists from Frank Cardoza combined to help the Hinkley boys soccer team roll past William Smith 8-0. … Dagmawi Fitsum and Rex Paris had goals, while Christopher Zavala needed only three saves for a clean sheet in the Smoky Hill boys soccer team’s 2-0 win over Rocky Mountain. …Goals by Bryan Arevalo, Kemo Fofana and Alexis Hernandez, plus an eight-save performance from Geovany Meza, helped the Aurora West College Prep Academy boys soccer team deal previously unbeaten George Washington a 3-2 defeat. …The Overland girls volleyball team got 10 kills apiece from Gift Elamo and Arely Luna plus eight aces and 28 assists from Audrie Sutton in a 23-25, 25-9, 25-13, 25-18 win over Aurora Central. …Jeralynn Navarro had nine assists, seven aces and five kills to help pace the Hinkley girls volleyball team to a 25-13, 25-19, 25-5 victory over William Smith. …The Lotus School For Excellence girls volleyball team swept past Denver Waldorf. …Despite 14 kills apiece from Londyn Donaldson and Olivia Laughlin, the Cherokee Trail girls volleyball team fell to Ralston Valley 26-24, 25-19, 19-25, 25-14. …In a local matchup, the Grandview girls flag football team scored in all four quarters of a 46-14 victory over Regis Jesuit. Brooke Sullivan accounted for 344 yards of total offense and six touchdowns, while Solvie Youde (103 yards rushing) and Kendall Tracy (156 yards receiving) tallied two scores apiece for the Wolves. …The Gateway girls flag football team downed Abraham Lincoln 20-12. …The Regis Jesuit boys tennis team swept past Chaparral in a Continental League dual that saw Nos. 1 and 2 singles players Alec Rodriguez-Fields and Marcus Magno plus the Nos. 2 and 4 doubles teams (Will Larkin and Daniel Hickey, Connor Hickey and Bennett Blaustein) all win without dropping a single game. …The Cherokee Trail boys tennis team got shutout singles wins from Clark Deeleuw (No. 1), Krishiv Malik (No. 2) and Taejoo Kim (No. 3) and from two doubles teams as well in a 7-0 Centennial League sweep of Overland. …The Cherokee Trail boys golf team posted a two-stroke victory in the fourth Centennial League tournament of the season, which was played at sun-splashed Murphy Creek G.C. The tandem of Jeffrey Chen and Jack Brenning paced the Cougars as each shot 2-under-par 70 as part of a four-way tie for second place — one stroke off the lead — while fourth-place Grandview saw Sam Silver and Dominik Fedotov tie for sixth and 10th, respectively. Reece Nuwash of Smoky Hill joined Silver with a 1-under 71 that tied him for sixth.
