QUID HAS HEARD that the thrill is gone here in Aurora when it comes to getting worked up about immigration reform. After years of fighting over whether to allow all the Mexicans who have lived here illegally for years to continue to live here legally, since they’re clearly going to keep living here, the U.S. Senate passed a bill that reflects reality. As both sides of the issue seek to find someone who cares anymore, they failed in Aurora. A rally-protest-bake-sale or whatever slated for July 1 at city hall drew about eight people, three of which were reporters. With changes at the state and Aurora learning enough Spanish to order successfully at Taco Bell, it’s just not a big deal anymore. Next controversy, please.

AND QUID HAS HEARD that the Douglas County School District just can’t quit thinking enough of itself these days. Seems that after the district that rules over the Land of the Sea of Beige Homes and White Conservatives announced that it would destroy its teacher union, offer tuition vouchers good at religious schools and allow for new shades of beige in school classrooms, the district is now getting into the gastronomical arts. Each month, the Colorado Department of Agriculture sends hacks across the state a recipe using Colorado ingredients — other than marijuana. This month’s recipe for Watermelon Salsa comes from Douglas County School District Executive Chef Jason K. Morse, C.E.C. Quid wonders what other marvels this school district’s executive or more subordinate chefs cook up for a part of the region that’s known for its inventive cuisine where the kiddies surely love watermelon salsa with cilantro on their chicken breadlets.

AND QUID HAS HEARD that President Barack “I-See-You” Obama has nothing on the Aurora Police when it comes to collecting your most personal secrets for no good reason. Seems that Officer Oops made a big mess of things a couple of weeks ago when he inadvertently destroyed DNA evidence from 456 Aurora felony and misdemeanor cases from 2009. Not to worry, said Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates said. Almost all of that evidence won’t affect anything but maybe one or two cases, including evidence collected in 48 sex assaults. Then why are the police collecting all this evidence that doesn’t mean anything to anyone until it’s accidentally toasted? If you have to ask why…

And that’s all the news that fits

  1. Where is our Mayor and Council in this cluster mess? You used to lead our City proudly. Once a councilman (who has passed) told citizens If you hear one citizen complain, maybe nothing but if you hear numerous, same complaints about an issue you better take action and listen to everyone you can to resolve this. Who does the Chief and City Manager work for?????????????

    1. Confused,

Allow me to clarify. The Mayor, Council, and City Manager now work for the Chief.
None of the above mentioned work on behalf of or listen to the people any longer.
Since they are playing the game of keep away, the voters need to remember that when each of their terms are up and keep them away from getting another one.
It’s time the voters recognize our city is being driven by a pack of pooped out Pintos and that we can always trade up for a fleet of Ferraris!
