AURORA | Republican U.S. Senate candidate and former Aurora City Councilman Ryan Frazier is slated to appear on Fox and Friends Saturday morning to discuss the controversy over appointing a Supreme Court nominee after the death last week of Justice Antonin Scalia.
Frazier, one of 13 Republicans seeking the nomination to run against incumbent Democrat Michael Bennet, is scheduled to appear on the conservative political show at 7:20 a.m., according to campaign officials.
The issue of whether Republicans in the Senate should or will block an Obama administration Supreme Court nominee from confirmation process has drawn in current and prospective senators across the country. In Colorado, GOP Senate hopeful Jon Keyser of Jefferson County said this week that any Republican who doesn’t work to thwart the confirmation process until after the presidential election, isn’t a “conservative,” as first reported by the Colorado Statesman.
Frazier has so far been non-committal about whether he thinks the Senate should allow the process to go forward when Obama produces a nominee, or whether to back the views of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. McConnell wants to preclude the nomination process, allowing the next president to select a nominee for the high court.
“I believe that (Scalia’s) legacy and service to this country warrants a respectful grieving and healing period before the rigorous process of naming and confirming the next High Court Justice,” Frazier said in a statement Friday afternoon. “I look forward to discussing this topic more with Fox and Friends.”
