AURORA | Two men are dead and one woman is wounded after an early morning shooting at a North Aurora home Tuesday morning. Police say a man has been arrested in connection with the shooting.
Police haven’t released the victims’ or suspect’s names but said that all parties had “extensive criminal history,” said Aurora police spokeswoman Cassidee Carlson. “We’ve got violent acts and drug history there.” Police say the victims and suspects were between the ages of 40 and 66.
Police were called to 1437 Lima St. at about 3 a.m. about reports of multiple gunshots and discovered the terminally wounded man and the woman inside the house, where the shooting apparently occurred.
Police say the resident of the home was in the front room with the woman when two men arrived. They were armed, and a struggle ensued inside the house. One of the men was shot during the fight and died inside the rental unit. The male resident made it outside the house and was running toward the alley when he was shot multiple times by the second suspect, and he later died.
Police said the second suspect went back inside the home, and stole keys to the resident’s black Cadillac where he fled the scene. That suspect was later arrested around noon with the help of Denver police.
“We are no longer looking for outstanding suspects at this time,” Carlson said.
The female inside the rental unit suffered a nonfatal gunshot wound. “We’re still piecing together how that occurred,” Carlson said.
Police said they located the stolen Cadillac around 2500 Dallas Street. Upon locating the car, police said they also located the second suspect near East 33rd Avenue and Jasmine Street arrested him after he tried to flee. The suspect is being held at the Aurora jail.
“We’ve got several locations that we’re writing search warrants for in hopes of getting more evidence,” she said.
Carlson said police are still trying to figure out who shot the suspect inside the apartment. She said they haven’t done a thorough search of the apartment yet.
“We believe the suspects went to that house for a reason,” she said. “They were acquaintances. We do not believe this is a random act of violence. It’s too early to say at this time exactly what that motive was.”
