AURORA | The July 20 theater shooting caused an almost 2 percent spike in crime last year, according to preliminary data Aurora police released Tuesday.

Without counting the shooting crime across the city actually fell by 1.3 percent, APD said. But when July 20 is included, crime ticked up 1.9 percent.

In all, the theater rampage accounted for 12 homicides — the same number as the city had in all of 2011 — and 57 non-fatal aggravated assaults, police said.

According to the numbers:

• Murders rose 141 percent, from 12 to 29.

• Forcible rape fell 3.8 percent from 186 to 179.

• Robbery fell 6.8 percent from 515 to 480.

• Aggravated assault rose 5.7 percent, from 754 to 797.

• Burglary fell 17 percent from 2,145 to 1,780.

• Larceny rose 7.6 percent from 6,945 to 7,472.

• Motor vehicle theft rose 4 percent from 889 to 925.
