AURORA | Aurora police say they’re trying to determine how a man found unconscious in his car in northeast Aurora came to be critically injured by a gunshot wound Tuesday night.
Police were called to East Smith Road and Chambers Road at about 8:45 p.m. after a reports of a possible shooting there.

Officers found an “unresponsive” man behind the wheel of a white Acura suffering from a gunshot wound.

“Shell casings were located inside the vehicle, and investigators observed a possible bullet hole in the windshield,” Aurora police spokesperson Gabby Easterwood said in a statement.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital, and as of Wednesday he was considered to be in critical condition. 

Police shut down the intersection for several hours while investigating the scene.

Police said anyone with information can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.
