Police investigate details of a rollover crash on East First Avenue and Havana Street May 8, 2014. The crash left two people dead and another injured.

AURORA |  Police say two men not wearing seat belts were killed Wednesday morning when their car suddenly lurched across South Street into oncoming traffic, hitting an SUV and then rolling over alongside the road at about East First Avenue.

Police said the two men were in a Lexus headed north on Havana at about 8 a.m. when their car suddenly careened into southbound traffic, striking a Toyota Land Cruiser head on. The impact spun the Toyota around, and the Lexus tolled onto its top. The Woman driving the Toyota was transported to a nearby hospital with non-threatening injuries, police said. They noted she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Neither of the two men were identified. Police said one of the men was pronounced dead at the scene. The other died en route to a nearby hospital.

Police said they do not at this time think alcohol was a factor in the crash, but that the Lexus appeared to be speeding.

“At this time we do not know why the sedan veered to the left,” police said in a statement. “This crash is a good reminder why seat belts are important and should always be worn.”
