AURORA | Aurora City Council members will be talking about a proposed ordinance to decrease the amount of brick required for home construction at a special study session on July 16.

The proposal is being backed by officials from the Home Builder’s Association of Metro Denver, who say that potential homeowners are not as concerned about the outside of a house as they are with energy-efficient features inside a house.

Opponents of the proposal have said alternatives to brick like cement fiber, vinyl or engineered wood composite are much harder to maintain and will look unattractive.

The proposal would change the mandate that home builders construct new houses using at least 30 percent brick. Under the draft ordinance, home builders would be required to use only 15 percent brick.
