AURORA | The body of a 63-year-old Arapahoe County man who had been missing since June 12 has been found in a Denver creek, bringing an end to a weekslong search, sheriff officials said.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Thursday that the Denver coroner’s office identified the body found near Denver’s Central Park neighborhood as Kevin Bailey, who was reported missing after he disappeared from the Woodland Estates Senior Living Center east of Aurora.

Bailey was last seen about 2 p.m. June 12 at the facility’s front desk. Investigators previously said he told an employee he planned to ride a bus and visit friends, while family members reported he also said he was looking for work.

On June 25, the sheriff’s office expanded its search after developing investigative leads that placed Bailey in Denver’s Central Park area, where he was last known to be.

Members of the Arapahoe Rescue Patrol and two search-and-rescue dogs conducted a coordinated search and located evidence that prompted them to continue the search the following day.

On June 26, members of the Denver Fire Water Rescue Team and Arapahoe County sheriff’s investigators recovered a body from a creek in the area, sheriff officials said. The Denver Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identity as Bailey on July 1.

Investigators did not release a possible cause of death, and no additional details about the investigation were immediately released.

Bailey’s disappearance prompted concern because authorities said he required daily prescription medications and had been without them since before he went missing. Investigators said his cellphone was no longer active and that he did not have access to money or a debit card.
