How many people actually take the time to gaze at the murals at Denver International Airport while rushing to catch a plane? How many of you have stopped to let your eyes linger on the bright pastels and overarching aesthetic themes after you’ve been felt up by TSA security officials?

If you haven’t caught the art lover’s bug at Colorado’s airport yet, DIA officials have a new way to get your art appreciation ramped up before intercontinental flights. At 1 p.m. on Monday, May 21, the Consulate General of Mexico, the Mexican Cultural Center and DIA will unveil “Vochol: Art on Wheels,” a traveling exhibit in the main terminal that features a Volkswagen Beetle covered with more than 2,200,000 glass beads.
Titled the “Vochol,” the carefully decorated VW features traditional beadwork by the Huichol indigenous tribe from West Central Mexico. The car features work by eight artists, craftspeople who devoted nearly 9,500 hours of work to turn the tacky car from the ‘70s into something beautiful. With the vibrant hues and intricate designs, you might even forget you’re about to get felt up by a stranger in a TSA uniform.
