Aurora hoops season extended with premier A-Town All-Stars game March 26
TYREI RANDALL
School: Rangeview
Year: Senior
Height: 6-foot-5
2015-16 averages: 16.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.9 steals
Season highlights: Rangeview’s undefeated season came to an end in the Class 5A semifinals when the Raiders fell short in a dual against Eaglecrest at the Coors Events Center, but the Raiders (26-1) had a spectacular run that netted them the most wins of any 5A team in Colorado and came up just short of earning them at winning the first state championship for the program since 1985. Coach Shawn Palmer’s team needed each and every one of the 10 players who saw the floor regularly to step up at different times to keep the unbeaten season going and they all did their parts down to the very end. Seniors Tyrei Randall, EJ Reed and junior Elijah Blake — all first team All-East Metro Athletic Conference selections — and senior Jalen Guidry all played integral roles in one of the finest seasons in school history. Randall’s scoring binges, especially early in games, got the Raiders off to flying starts on many, many occasions, and he led a balanced roster in scoring thanks to 11 games of 20 or more points on his way to an season average of 16.6 points per contest. He knocked down a team-high 46 3-pointers on the season and trailed only Reed on the team in trips to the free throw line, as he got there 101 times. Randall’s season-high of 29 points came in an 89-75 win over Windsor on Dec. 11. His length on defense caused plenty of problems for opponents as well and he blocked two or more shots on nine occasions. Randall will play on Team East in the A-Town All-Stars Game.
Randall vs. Aurora teams: Smoky Hill (22 points & 6 assists); Cherokee Trail (13 points & 6 rebounds, 18 points & 5 rebounds); Regis Jesuit (10 points); Aurora Central (3 points, 23 points); Gateway (21 points & 5 steals); Hinkley (10 points), Vista PEAK (23 points); Eaglecrest (8 points)
