University of Colorado to launch recyclable aluminum cup

BOULDER | A Colorado university has partnered with a packaging company to introduce an infinitely recyclable aluminum cup to sports fans.

The Daily Camera reports that the University of Colorado Boulder is expected to debut the cup at Saturday’s football game against the University of Nebraska.

Officials say Folsom Field is the first college venue in the nation to have the cups that are expected to be used at all home games this season.

Ball Corporation says they expect to produce a limited amount of cups through 2020 for major sports and entertainment venues.

Company officials say the cups are a viable alternative to plastic and help the university work toward its goal of becoming a plastic-free sports venue by 2020.

Research shows 75% of aluminum ever made is still used today.
