Aurora hoops season extended with premier A-Town All-Stars game March 26
TE’RAE JOHNSON
School: Vista PEAK
Year: Sophomore
Height: 5-foot-11
2015-16 averages: 14.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.4 steals
Season highlights: In his second season with the Vista PEAK program, coach Gary Childress felt good about the progress of his team, which won a third consecutive Colorado 7 league championships and racked up a 19-6 record, which included a Class 4A playoff win over Thompson Valley and a loss to Denver South in 4A’s Sweet 16. Sophomore Te’Rae Johnson earned himself a lot more playing time this season and showed an explosive ability to score, especially on drives to the basket where he finished through contact or got himself to the free throw line. Johnson earned 22 more trips to the free throw line than Vista PEAK’s No. 2 in the category — Hawkins — and he was a 73 percent shooter from the charity stripe that gave him a boost toward scoring in double figures in 21 of 25 games. Johnson was too much for Elizabeth to handle in an 82-43 Bison win over Elizabeth on Jan. 15, as he finished with a season-high 25 points and made 11 of his 13 shots from the field. Johnson was one of three Vista PEAK players picked to the All-Colorado 7 second team. He will play on Team West in the A-Town All-Stars Game.
Vista PEAK vs. Aurora teams: Gateway (20 points & 3 assists); Rangeview (10 points)
