Aurora hoops season extended with premier A-Town All-Stars game March 26

Season highlights: In the won-loss column, Smoky Hill had the roughest season among any Aurora teams with a 4-19 record, but the Buffaloes also lost five games by six or fewer points in the first season under new coach Anthony Hardin, who came over after serving an assistant on Overland’s 2014-15 Class 5A state championship team. Smoky Hill’s youthful roster provided many encouraging results, however, and laid a foundation for a strong future. Freshman Kenny Foster — the younger brother of former Valor Christian star Chase Foster — came into the high school season with high expectations thanks to a 6-foot-4 frame, remarkable instincts for a young player and a polished game on both ends of the floor. Foster thrived in his role as the Buffaloes’ main focal point, as he scored in double figures in all but one game and scored 30 or more points on two occasions, including dropping 35 in a 68-62 loss to Rocky Mountain on Dec. 18. Among freshmen in Class 5A, Foster’s average of 18.9 points — while playing in the rugged Centennial League — was more than double that of the second-leading scorer and ranked second in all classifications in Colorado for players in the Class of 2019. Learning the balancing act of taking the lead, but also involving his teammates as much as possible, Foster also finished second for Smoky Hill in rebounding and second in assists as well. He will play for Team East in the A-Town All-Star Game.
