Season highlights: Regis Jesuit coach Ken Shaw had to almost completely reload his roster from last season due to graduation and he found another group that stepped up a performed very well on the varsity level, leading the program to a 22-4 record and another trip to the Great 8 round of the Class 5A state playoffs. Along the way, the Raiders — who finished in a three-way tie atop the Continental League standings with Rock Canyon and ThunderRidge — also earned Shaw his 700th career coaching victory, which ranks him third all-time in Colorado. Senior Michael Wambsganss made the most of his one and only varsity season, using a sweet stroke from the perimeter to finish as the only other player to average double figures for the Raiders other than Kelly. Wambsganss knocked down an Aurora-best 58 3-pointers on the season — shooting nearly 40 percent from downtown and making at least one in 25 of 26 games — and he connected on at least three triples in Regis Jesuit last seven games, including its three playoff contests. His season-high in points came when he poured in 23 points in a huge 57-47 Continental League win over Rock Canyon on Feb. 13 and he scored 14 as the Raiders became one of only three teams to beat two-time 5A state champion Overland during the regular season. Wambganss will play on Team East in the A-Town All-Stars Game.
