Aurora hoops season extended with premier A-Town All-Stars game March 26
LECHAUN DUHART
School: Grandview
Year: Junior
Height: 5-foot-11
2015-16 averages: 19.4 points, 2.2 assists, 0.7 steals
Season highlights: One of the best keys to success for any basketball team: have a strong guard who can make things happen with the ball in his hand and a player capable of taking over on the inside. In his second season at Grandview, coach Michael Rogers was fortunate to have both of those elements in the junior duo of guard Lechaun Duhart and post Gaige Prim, who were the primary driving forces for a team that finished 13-11 and had a signature win with a victory over eventual two-time state champion Overland during the regular season. The Wolves received a No. 4 seed in the 5A playoffs and lost by two points to Arvada West in the second round, but Duhart wouldn’t let them go quietly as he poured in 32 points to come up one short of his season-high 33-point effort in a 71-56 win over Castle View on Dec. 3. Duhart, who had an injury-riddled sophomore season, scored 20 or more points 14 times and cracked the 30-point barrier three times as he finished as the second-leading scorer for any player from an Aurora school at 19.4 points per game, just behind the 19.8 of Cherokee Trail’s David Thornton.
Duhart vs. Aurora teams: Regis Jesuit (20 points & 6 assists); Cherokee Trail (11 points, 24 points & 5 assists); Smoky Hill (20 points, 18 points); Eaglecrest (13 points, 12 points); Overland (5 points, 23 points & 4 steals)
