DENVER | A small helicopter-style gyroplane with only the pilot aboard has crashed while taking off at Front Range Airport east of Denver.

Bennett Fire Capt. Tim McCawley told KMGH-TV on Thursday (https://bit.ly/1bJ4xPc) that the pilot was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The pilot’s name wasn’t immediately released.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer says the aircraft was a Dominator gyroplane, considered an experimental aircraft.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating this accident.

Front Range Airport is about three miles southeast of Denver International Airport.
