AURORA | The City of Aurora was named one of five winning cities — and the only one beyond the borders of California — for the fourth annual National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation.

The challenge, held during the month of April, included more than 1,700 Aurora residents pledging to take steps to reduce their total water usage by about 73 million gallons.

As part of the city’s win, Mayor Steve Hogan, the Wyland Foundation and Toyota presented a Toyota Prius on June 29 to Taylor Armstrong, one of the residents who participated in the challenge. The ceremony was held at Stevinson Toyota East on Havana Street in Aurora.

The 73 million gallons in estimated reduced water use would be enough to fill 112 Olympic-size swimming pools.
