Several bomb squad vehicles and other emergency vehicles still surround the home at 1104 Tucson St. where police say they found explosives during a search Thursday night.

The intersection of Tucson and East 11th Avenue is closed, as is Tucson for about a half block to the north and south of East 11th Avenue.

The home’s owner, Ronald Weese, 62, is being held in the Arapahoe County Jail on felony explosives charges. His bond has been set at $6,000 and he is due in court Monday.

Police said the incident started Thursday night when Weese called a law enforcement agency and said he had several explosives in his vehicle that he wanted to get rid of.

Dispatchers told him to go to the nearest police or fire station and Weese dropped the items off at Aurora Fire Station No. 8, 250 S. Chambers Rd.

The Arapahoe County Bomb Squad responded and took the devices.

Police later determined the materials came from Weese’s home and officers responded to the house.

In the home, officers found several more items, evacuated the home and took Weese into custody.

Police have not released further details about the explosives and said there have been no bomb threats made in connection with the case.

According to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records, Weese has never been arrested in Colorado.
