CANON CITY, Colo. | A pit bull terrier is healing from a sword attack by a man who says he was defending himself.
The Pueblo Chieftain reports (https://bit.ly/1Scphon) Canon City police Capt. Jim Cox says the man involved in the incident near a homeless camp told officers the dog was growling and that he was cornered.
An animal county control officer is reviewing the case.
Fremont Veterinary Hospital Dr. Ronald Smith repaired a fractured skull and a hanging left cheek for the brown-and-white dog named Bob.
He and owner Richard Dean Grandfield are staying in a hotel paid for by a bull breed advocacy group Tyson’s Echo while the wounds heal.
Group advocate Kelly Ramos says the organization is collecting money for Bob’s care, with the remainder going toward other bull breeds in need.
