AURORA | With funding secured and the at-times tumultuous Gaylord Rockies Project looking like it will happen, the Aurora Economic Development Council is setting its sights on the international scene.
And the agency is moving to some new digs to help make that happen.
AEDC is moving from their current home at Interstate 225 and East Iliff Avenue to a new spot a few blocks west at 12510 E. Iliff Ave., Suite 115.
The offices will be closed for the move Dec. 3 and Dec. 4, but officials said they should be moved in and open Monday, Dec. 7.
CEO Wendy Mitchell said the new place is about the same size as the old one, but is significantly cheaper.
Because the group gets about half its financing from tax dollars and the rest from private sources, Mitchell said it was important that they find the most cost-effective option.
“I really try to make it as inexpensive as possible,” she said.
AEDC was in their last location for six years.
While the move isn’t adding space, Mitchell said the new space is more efficient so there will be room for one more office.
That’s important, Mitchell said, because they are planning to hire another staffer next year to focus on attracting an international company to Aurora.
AEDC led the charge for the city on the Gaylord project, and was largely at the forefront on a lengthy legal fight with Denver hoteliers who opposed the project.
With Gaylord having broken ground and secured its funding, luring an international company to Aurora is going to be a major initiative for AEDC and for the city going forward, Mitchell said.
