AURORA | Three men are in custody after a man was shot several times late Tuesday afternoon near a bus stop at East Bayaud Street and Sable Boulevard, police said.
The victim, whose name has not been released, is expected to survive the shooting.
Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz said two men on an RTD bus traveling north on Sable Boulevard had some kind of altercation with three other young men on the bus just before 5 p.m. They younger men apparently got off the bus and opened fire on the victim when he got off, hitting him several times, Metz said.
The three younger men then darted to a nearby apartment complex, and went inside an unit. Metz said the young men didn’t live inside the unit, but it was unclear whether they knew someone inside.
The wounded man was rushed to The Medical Center of Aurora South Campus. His wounds were not life-threatening, Metz said.
Police and rescuers rushed to the scene and witnesses led police SWAT team members to the unit with the three inside. Metz said officers went into the apartment and brought the men out without incident.
The three men were handcuffed and sat on the corner of Sable Boulevard and Bayaud Street for several minutes while police processed the scene.
Metz said that while appeared that the suspects were gang members, it was too soon in the investigation to say the shooting was gang related. Denver has seen surge in gang-related violence lately.
Police surrounded an apartment about 5 p.m. at the Topaz complex at East Bayaud Street and Sable Boulevard after witnesses said three men got off a bus nearby and fired three shots, hitting at least one person.

I’d say it’s most likely gang related … a lot of bangers and wannabes live in the area. My supposition comes from having lived in the area for decades.
