AURORA | Police are investigating a Monday night shooting that left one man dead near East Alameda Avenue and South Havana Street.

The shooting happened around 11:45 p.m. in a parking lot at 306 S. Ironton St., just east of Alameda and Havana.

According to police, the man was seated alone in a car when he was shot. He sped away but crashed a short distance later on the north side of Alameda and Ironton.

When police arrived, the man was unresponsive inside the car with all the doors locked. Officers broke a window to reach the man and realized he had been shot. The man was rushed to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Detectives from the department’s Major Crime/Homicide Unit and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit Are investigating.

Police said they don’t have a motive for the slaying, but believe it was an isolated incident.
