High fire danger new worry for Colorado wildfire

The high fire danger warnings go into effect Friday afternoon and the hot, dry conditions could last through the weekend. Winds are expected to gust up to 25 miles per hour in northern Colorado, where a fire is burning on more than 68,000 acres west of Fort Collins. It’s 55 percent contained.

The fire has destroyed at more than 190 homes and is blamed for one death.

Heat will also be a factor at the 1,150-acre wildfire burning near Lake George, which is 57 percent contained.

In western Colorado, a fire at the edge of Carbondale has been contained at one acre. Firefighters believe it started when a truck hit and snapped a power line Thursday.
