The sun gleaming off their perfectly polished buttons and their blue uniforms neatly pressed for every occasion, the Aurora Police Department Honor Guard cuts a striking image wherever they go. The volunteer unit has been around since 1998, presenting the colors at officer funerals, city functions and other memorials a few times a month. Lt. Troy Edwards, the unit’s commander, said the 20 or so officers who join the team range from officer all the way to lieutenant. Many of the officers who have joined over the years have a military background that makes the unit a good fit, but not all of them do. Edwards said one thing they all share though is an unflinching attention to detail.
