FORT CARSON | Fort Carson is honoring a 21-year-old Thornton soldier who was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

The post is holding a memorial service for Pfc. Jacob H. Wykstra on Tuesday. It will include the traditional rifle squad salute and the playing of Taps.

Wykstra was killed in Kandahar Province on May 28. He joined the Army last year and was an infantryman assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

His funeral was held in Northglenn on Monday and flags across the state were lowered in his honor.
