Arapahoe County and the city of Aurora will co-host a free forum and resource fair for seniors during April’s National Fair Housing Month about seniors’ rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act. The event will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., April 26 at the Martin Luther King Library, 9898 E. Colfax Ave. in Aurora.

The event will be an open house format, with formal presentations on how to recognize discrimination when renting or purchasing a home and how to file a complaint.

Speakers will include representatives from the City of Aurora’s Community Development Division and an attorney with Fair Housing expertise. Seniors and their families will be able to ask questions and learn about fair housing protections, regardless of age, race, gender, nationality, religion, family status or disability.

The event also will feature many booths with housing resources for seniors, including housing options, home rehabilitation services, reverse mortgage counseling, landlord/tenant counseling and down payment services. Information also will be available on support services for seniors, including transportation, food assistance, veterans‚ services, adult protection, housekeeping or chore assistance and long term care.
