AURORA | Arapahoe County residents can begin applying Sept. 20 for federal money to recoup damages from the Aurora floods, officials said.
Federal Emergency Management Agency officials are going door to door to assess damage and register homeowners for assistance, according to the city’s website. Residents affected by the flooding should register with FEMA by calling 800-621-3362 or visiting the website disasterassistance.gov. Adams County residents can also register with FEMA. The city is facing more than $5 million in damage to streets from last week’s flooding, city officials said Sept. 19.
Several streets including Peoria Street and sidewalks around the Highline Canal and Utah Park are damaged, said City Manager Skip Noe. A storm drainage line is also eroded, and the cost to repair that is still unknown, he said.
City officials are asking FEMA for assistance in road repair. Even with street damage, the city fared better than other cities in the state because of its detention ponds and storm sewers, Noe said.
