AURORA | Early returns from Arapahoe County show President Barack Obama leading by about six percentage points against his opponent, Republican Mitt Romney.

Unofficial early Arapahoe County results at about 9:30 p.m. show Obama winning 52 percent of the vote, while his opponent, Romney, is winning about 46 percent.

Arapahoe County’s early results included about 5,900 Election Day voters, and thousands of mail-in and early voting turnout, which totaled to about 215,000 people, or 56 percent of total voters.

In Congressional District 6, Arapahoe County voters chose to re-elect incumbent Republican Mike Coffman by a narrow margin. About 47.1 percent of voters chose Coffman, and about 46.8 percent chose his opponent, Democrat Joe Miklosi.

In the state Senate 28 race, Democrat Nancy Todd won about 57 percent of the vote, and her opponent, Republican John Lyons, won about 40 percent of the vote.

In the state Senate 29 race, Democrat Morgan Carroll kept her seat with about 57 percent, while Republican Bill Ross won about 38 percent of the vote.
In the state House 36 race, Democrat Su Ryden also held onto her seat by getting about 57 percent of the vote, while her opponent, Republican James Parker, won about 40 percent of the vote.
In the state House 37 race, Republican Spencer Swalm won about 54 percent of the vote while Democrat Jan Spooner garnered about 43 percent.
Democrat John Buckner flipped the state House 40 seat by gaining about 56 percent of the vote, while his opponent, Republican incumbent Cindy Acree, won about 44 percent of the vote.
Democrat Jovan Melton, a first-time candidate, won about 58 percent of the vote, beating his opponent, Republican Art Carlson, who garnered about 37 percent of the vote. Melton was hesitant to officially accept the win, though he said he was watching the results intently.
“I’m feeling really good and it’s really great to have that many votes already in and counted and to see that kind of support is really humbling,” he said.
State House Democratic Rep. Rhonda Fields kept her seat by winning about 72 percent of the vote, while her opponent, Republican Mike Donald, won about 28 percent.
Republican Kevin Priola also kept his seat, as he won about 61 percent of the vote against his opponent, Democrat Dave Rose, who won about 36 percent of the vote.
