COLORADO SPRINGS | Former state legislator and Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights author Douglas Bruce is suing Colorado Springs over several issues that he says the city is handling improperly.

City Council President Keith King says the council has discussed each issue in the lawsuit with the city attorney and is not in violation of the law.

The Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/15NkGQX ) the lawsuit filed last week contends that councilmembers are barred by law from getting benefits, but each member has an annual $8,000 expense account, free lunch on work session days, plus access to a refrigerator full of snacks. He contends members shouldn’t be eligible for the Public Employees Retirement Association either.

Bruce’s suit argues the city attorney is improperly appointing outside counsel without City Council approval, among several other complaints.
