Denver police last night arrested a man in Aurora in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a University of Denver student dead last week.

Andrew Simpson, 45, was arrested Monday after police received a tip from an Aurora resident that said a red Jeep Cherokee used in the crash was parked in the 1600 block of Hanover Street in Aurora, said Denver police spokesman Detective John White.

White said the tipster walked into an Aurora police station and told officers about the vehicle.

When investigators arrived, they determined the car had damage consistent with last week’s crash and impounded it, White said.

Simpson is being investigated for vehicular homicide and failure to report a traffic fatality, White said.

The victim, Masoud Bahramisharif, was walking in the intersection of South University Boulevard and East Evans Avenue when he was struck May 31. He later died of his injuries.
