AURORA | Janet Lee Cook announced her candidacy last week for the District 3 seat on the Arapahoe County Board of Commissioners.
Cook, a retired civil servant who spent more than three decades working in various offices of the Federal Aviation Administration, currently works in private practice with women dealing with cancer.
Cook, a Democrat, says there is much to be done in managing the “growth and economic viability for the more-rural District 3.
“We need forward-thinking commissioners with significant experience in large public-sector programs as well as running a local business through the past decade’s rough waters of change,” according to a news release in which Cook announced her candidacy.
Cook has pledged a portion of her salary, if elected, to nonprofit projects and organizations within Arapahoe County’s District 3.
Cook has been married for 37 years to Dan Cook, and they have two sons — James and Danny — and six grandchildren. They moved to eastern Arapahoe County in 2007 and built a home in Bennett.
Cook is the only Democratic candidate to file for the race as of this writing. Republicans Jeffrey Baker and Thomas Coker have both previously announced their intention to seek the GOP nomination for the District 3 race.
