DENVER | A man accused of running a fraudulent breast cancer charity has pleaded not guilty in a separate case in which prosecutors say he stole more than $1 million through a scheme involving the sale of donated mattresses.
The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/iqX7tJ ) 36-year-old Adam Shryock pleaded not guilty Thursday to theft of $1 million or more, conspiracy to commit theft of $1 million or more and charitable fraud.
Prosecutors say he and 58-year-old Genevieve Cruz collected mattresses returned under a warranty program, claiming they were being donated to Ecumenical Refugee and Immigration Services and distributed to refugees. Shryock and Cruz are accused of selling most of the mattresses for profit.
Shryock founded Boobies Rock!, a breast cancer charity that was the target of a 2013 lawsuit from the Colorado Attorney General’s Office.
