DENVER | A group that wants Colorado grocery stores to sell wine and full-strength beer submitted ballot proposals to ask voters next year to make it happen.
Colorado is among a handful of states where gas stations, grocery stores and convenience stores can only sell beer with an alcohol content of 3.2 percent.
A group called Your Choice Colorado, which includes grocery stores, filed two ballot petitions Wednesday. One would allow stores to continue to sell beer with an alcohol content of 3.2 percent if they choose. The other would get rid of lower-strength beer and allow stores to sell regular beer.
Opponents argue smaller liquor stores will hurt and that craft breweries that depend on them to showcase their product will also be impacted.
To get on the ballot, 98,492 voter signatures are needed.
As I see it, the large liquor stores are very vocal in opposition to this idea! Who would have thought?
