AURORA | A 19-year-old man is facing a first-degree murder charge after police say he stabbed his stepfather to death last week at their Aurora home and took cell phone video of the aftermath.
Nickolas Khalil Vinson was arrested Dec. 14 shortly after police responded to a home in the 2700 block of South Rifle Street on a report of a stabbing.
According to an arrest affidavit, Vinson admitted to police that he stabbed his stepfather, Oscar Lemar Owensby, 50. He then fled the home but came back a short time later after police called him.
Vinson later told police he and Owensby had been arguing via text earlier in the day about Owensby wanting Vinson to do more around the house and to chip in financially.
That evening, Vinson said he was expecting Owensby to hit him so he grabbed a large knife — which he described as having a brass-knuckle type handle — and stabbed Owensby in the neck. He then stabbed Owensby several more times, he said.
Police said Vinson then took video of Owensby lying on the ground and Vinson’s mother crouching near him, screaming.
On the video, which police said Vinson posted to Snapchat, he can be heard saying: “I killed him.”
Vinson is being without bond at the Arapahoe County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder, according to jail records. He is due in court Friday.
