AURORA | The limited-service driver’s license office at Arapahoe County Altura Plaza, 15400 E. 14th Place in Aurora, will permanently close Nov. 30., according to Arapahoe County officials.
The office is closing to meet the growing demand for motor vehicle title and registration services at the county’s Aurora Motor Vehicle Office at 490 S. Chambers Road. This move will increase the Aurora branch workforce from 26 to 30 employees, according to the release.
“Arapahoe County is experiencing record-high car registrations and renewals in a strong economy,” said Clerk and Recorder Matt Crane. “By law, our top priority is to help County residents title and register their vehicles, whereas driver’s license services are an optional service. Therefore, we made the difficult decision to close our Altura Plaza driver’s license office and focus our limited resources at our Aurora Branch Office, where we hope to reduce wait times and improve service levels for our citizens.”
The Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder’s Office has operated the limited-service driver’s license office at Altura Plaza on a voluntary basis on behalf of the State since 2010. This office served approximately 60 citizens per day with driver’s license renewals, ID cards and motor vehicle records.
Arapahoe County’s Motor Vehicle Division processed 85,000 more transactions than any other Colorado county in 2014, and is on-target to pass this mark in 2015. Similar growth is expected in 2016.
The Aurora Motor Vehicle Office will not offer driver’s license services, according to the release. Arapahoe County will continue to offer limited driver’s license and ID card services at its Littleton and Centennial branches.
