AURORA | The intersection of Alameda Avenue and Sable Boulevard will reopen to traffic at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, after crews finished reconstruction about two weeks early.
Regional Transportation District officials announced Thursday afternoon, Nov. 5, that project contractor Kiewit Infrastructure had worked around the clock to expedite the intersection reconstruction’s completion.
Despite the reopening, RTD officials are cautioning motorists that a number of single-lane closures and other traffic diversions will be needed as Aurora Water works on drainage for the revamped intersection.
The new intersection, rebuilt to accommodate an at-grade light rail crossing for the upcoming Aurora “R” line, has additional turn lanes and new traffic signals. The light rail trains will not be running at the crossing until testing of the line begins in 2016.
The next step for the I-225 light rail line project will be the closure of Centrepoint Drive east of Sable near the CentrePoint bus transfer station.

I drove through there this weekend. There are now 7 stoplights between Chambers and 225 on Alameda. Traffic was bad there, especially with the silly 225 ramps, throw in a train and you have reached ludicrous level.
