AURORA | One man was critically injured and two others suffered minor injuries after a semi-tractor trailer rammed into the back of a pick-up truck on I-70 during Tuesday morning’s rush hour, closing the interstate for hours.
Police said that as westbound I-70 was slowing near Airport Boulevard at about 8 a.m., a man driving a semi-truck “failed to recognize this traffic congestion” and rear-ended a late model pick-up truck. The semi hit the pick-up so hard it threw it into the back of another semi-truck, police said in a statement.
The driver’s of all three trucks were rushed to nearby hospitals. The driver of the pick-up truck was critically injured, but he is expected to survive, police said. The drivers of the two semi-trucks sustained minor injuries.
The crash prompted police to close I-70 for almost three hours.
Police did not release the names of those involved in the crash, or whether the drivers were wearing seat belts.
