The crash occurred just after 7:30 a.m. Monday on Independence Road.

Boulder County sheriff’s Cmdr. Jeff Hendry says the preliminary investigation indicates that the plane hit the road propeller-first. However, he says the circumstances leading up to the crash, the number of people on board and its destination aren’t known yet.

No one on the ground was injured.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire quickly on the road that runs along open fields lined with fences.
