The first R.J. Demps Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on July 7 at Regis Jesuit High School was a big success, as 36 teams were on hand to compete in the tournament in honor of Demps, a former Regis Jesuit basketball star.

Entry fees were used to set up a scholarship in the name of Demps, a 2009 graduate of the school who died in a car accident in December, two days shy of his 21st birthday. A total of $4,300 was raised for tuition assistance at Regis Jesuit according to organizers.

Many of Demps’ former teammates from the club that beat George Washington to win the Class 5A boys basketball state title in the 2008-09 season were on hand: Will Cobb, Joey Ptasinski, Drew Dyer, Ryan Winters, Michael Clark, Damian Mencini, Chris Lesnansky and Ryan Williams among them.
