AURORA | A look at some of the key games and tournaments in Aurora prep sports from May 4-May 10:
• Cherokee Trail opens the boys lacrosse state playoffs at 7 p.m. May 4 at Legacy Stadium when 22nd-seeded Littleton (9-6) comes calling on the 12-3 Cougars, who are the 11th seed in the playoffs for the second season in a row. A win could pit Cherokee Trail against sixth-seeded Regis Jesuit.
• The Grandview/Cherry Creek Track Invitational is set for 8 a.m. May 5 at Stutler Bowl, with many of Aurora’s best athletes set to get a last tune up for league championships and the state meets in upcoming weeks.
• Centennial and Continental “B” League boys swim meets run May 5, with the Centennial League (Cherokee Trail, Grandview, Overland and Smoky Hill/Eaglecrest) in action at Cherry Creek High School and Regis Jesuit playing host to the Continental League group.
• Smoky Hill plays a first round boys lacrosse state playoff game at 3 p.m. May 5 against Wheat Ridge at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood. The Buffaloes (7-8) are in the state postseason for the first time since 2008 and hold the 21st seed, while the Farmers (9-6) are in the No. 12 slot. The winner moves on to the Round of 16 May 9.
• Girls golf regionals take place May 7-8, with Regis Jesuit at the 4A Metro West Regional at 7:30 a.m. May 7 at West Woods Golf Club in Arvada and Aurora Central, Gateway, Hinkley, Rangeview in 5A Metro West Regional action at 8 a.m. May 7 at Fox Hollow G.C. On May 8, Cherokee Trail, Eaglecrest, Grandview, Overland and Smoky Hill take on the familiar Aurora Hills Golf Course — site of the 5A state tournament — beginning at 8 a.m. in Metro East play.
• The EMAC track & field championships begin at 4 p.m. May 9 at Aurora Public Schools Stadium, with Aurora Central, Gateway, Hinkley and Rangeview among the teams on hand. The finals are May 11.
• The Class 5A and 4A girls state tennis tournaments both run May 10-12, with the 5A group at Gates Tennis Center in Denver and 4A headed to Pueblo City Park. The first state championships of the spring prep sports season are decided, with Aurora teams likely to be involved in both classifications. Regis Jesuit takes its last crack at the 4A tournament, with senior Kerbi Brisch aiming for her third straight state championship at No. 1 doubles. Play begins at 9 a.m. all three days.
